[dropcap]T[/dropcap]he popular Treasure Coast Bonito blast returns on August 22. Captains Meeting and final registration on August 21st and post tournament awards party on August 22nd will be held at Manatee Island Bar & Grill in Port Salerno. Tournament events will include live bands, silent and live auctions, 50/50 raffle, junior angler award and cash prizes totaling $2,500 for the three biggest bonito. Tournament shirts with a new Carey Chen design will be available for purchase. Entry fee is $100 per boat, up to 4 anglers; extra anglers are $25 each. The entry fee includes dinners at both events. Junior anglers (under 12) fish for free. Weigh-in will be held on the Manatee Pocket at Twisted Tuna. Angler or not, all welcome to Bonito Blast events.
The idea behind the Treasure Coast Bonito Blast (TCBB) was to give the community an opportunity to participate in a favorite local pastime, while supporting Wounded Warriors of South Florida (WWofSF). This volunteer organization, gives 85% of its proceeds, providing emergency financial assistance to eligible disabled veterans (and their families) who have served in the wars and conflicts since 9/11.
Last year’s TCBB, brought over 100 local businesses and organizations together to sponsor this unique bonito hunt. It became one of the biggest tournaments on the Treasure Coast, with 121 boats registered and over 400 anglers participating. In only its second year, TCBB raised over $36,000 for veterans supported by WWofSF.
