Treasure Coast Dive Forecast – April 2013

The seas are flattening out and the visibility has gone from 5 feet to 50 feet. PHOTO PROVIDED: StuartSCUBA.

[dropcap]S[/dropcap]eas on the Treasure Coast were not kind in March. We either had terrible waves, sometimes up to eight feet, or no visibility in the water column. Finding the bottom with your face is just not fun. Just south in the Jupiter area, the seas were still uncooperative, however the visibility was much better. Cobia and snappers have been being taken with nice regularity and size. Sharks this past month have been abundant and while they come to see what we shoot, they have not been bothering the catch. It is always wonderful to see one of the oceans apex predators. With the changing of the seasons we are starting to see a major change in the weather pattern. Th e seas are flatting out and the visibility has gone from 5 feet to 50. We are all waiting for the full spring and summer seas to embrace us. We are sad to see the end of lobster season. This has been a good year and I understand that many a freezer has a good stock of tails. April will be a good time to upgrade and hone your skills. Remember grouper season starts in just a very short time…May 1st.

As always we will be looking to see you under the boat. Please join us on our boats and our friends out of Stuart and Jupiter.
