Venice Inshore: June 2014

[dropcap]M[/dropcap]ay has definitely been an interesting month. Strong north winds, muddy water, late falling tides have made it challenging for a lot of fisherman. It has been a stick and move kind of month. The afternoon bite has been the ticket a lot of days. The high tide in the morning has the reds pushed far into the canes, slowing them down until it falls in the afternoon.

With all theses challenges we are still getting some excellent catches. Redfish have been fairly consistent in South Pass, Blind Bay and Yaratitch. With the reds being finicky we have been sticking to mostly shrimp under a cork. Gulps have worked good as well but with the muddy water we have had more success on shrimp.

Trout have been the biggest puzzle. We had such a late winter that were are almost a month behind for the trout to come in and spawn. Just when we think they have moved in for good, something changes. South Pass, Blind Bay and Breton Island has seen some good catches and over this past week seem to be on a more consistent pattern. Majority of the trout caught have been on live shrimp. Availability of live shrimp has been day to day so I you can’t get any I would arm yourself with some vudu shrimp.
