NSB Surf Fishing Report: Sept. 2014
Well the dog days of summer are slowly coming to a end and to be honest it’s been a great year for fishing here at the beach. In working at End of the line bait shop it gives me a unique opportunity to hear all of the great stories by locals and visitors alike and one thing they have all agreed upon was that this has been one of the best summers for fishing in several years.
Shrimping Report & Forecast: Sept. 2014
It is September already and my ears are still ringing from all the excitement from Daytona Beach to Jacksonville. The summer shrimp emerged out of the mud waking up the spirit that died off from the skunk last season. The shrimp are not impressive in size but are impressive in quantity.
Edgewater & Backcountry Fishing Report
Fall arrives this month according to the calendar but late summer patterns and water temps normally continue through September with the most notable change being the mullet run in the surf, inlet and Intracoastal Waterway.
The Art of Artificials… Dumber for Summer
Dummy lures. That’s the word my old bass-fishing partners use to describe a certain class of lures. These lures simply need to be reeled in steadily to be effective. I’ll give you a few that get eaten pretty good, freshwater or salt, all over the country when the water is warmest.
Edgewater & Backcountry Fishing Report: August 2014
Mangrove Snapper are good to target during August in the Edgewater Backcountry, they have been growing all year and many are getting to keeper size of 10” by late summer and into the fall. They are structure oriented fish, hanging around docks, jetties, any underwater rocks, and drop offs in the backwaters.
Central St. Johns River Fishing Report: August 2014
August is no doubt one of the hottest months of the year! That being said, it is important to start out early. The first 3 to 4 hours after sun up are going to be the most productive time during the day. Once it starts getting hot bass will retreat to deeper cooler water and the St. Johns River is a great place to find largemouth bass.

We’ll the humidity is back along with the afternoon storms which can only mean one thing here at the beach. Summer is back, and it’s seems as hot as ever already. With the change of seasons so does the change in fishing here. Usually this type of year when it comes to ocean fishing it’s typically pretty simple to predict with just Whiting, catfish, and shark being caught.
St. Johns River Fishing Report: August 2014
The heat is turned up - fishing is red hot here in Central Florida. Bass, panfish, and catfish are going to bite if you fish where they live and fish when they feed. Summer patterns change and the fish eat early in the morning, late evening, and at night.
Ponce Inlet Offshore Fishing Report & Forecast
August is a time of year when the humidity peaks and anglers work hard to produce hot fishing. Fishing directly off the beach, tarpon, sharks and king mackerel should provide dynamic light tackle action. Slow trolling live pogies, mullet or dead ribbonfish in 30-60’using light wire and multiple hooks can help bend a rod close to shore. Kingfish numbers will decline towards the end of the month but the tarpon opportunities should increase as numerous fish have been around since last month.

July offshore fishing offers anglers many options while calmer seas prevail. From the end of the jetties to running 100 miles out to chase tuna or anywhere in-between can be a possibility depending on what species is being targeted.Read the Current Issue
