April fishing in the Edgewater Backcountry is influenced by the spring shrimp run on the Intracoastal Waterway. The lagoon spawned shrimp are making their move from Oak Hill, through Edgewater and New Smyrna on a path to the ocean on each nights outgoing tide.

One more full month of winter fishing in the Edgewater Backcountry, sheepshead are one of the most sought after cold season targets, this inshore member of the porgy family eats crustaceans exclusively, best baits are fiddler crabs, but small live shrimp, peeled frozen shrimp, small pieces of clam, oyster or crab are a good second choice.

January had some good redfishing and the cold fronts should improve the redfishing through February. Constant fronts will keep the water clear, cold and shallow in the Mosquito Lagoon.
