Welcome to the Wind, Water, your update on what’s going on now and what to expect…
At the peak of the 2011 Hurricane season, Irene gave the entire Bahamas something to talk about. Rum Cay received a direct hit giving us some great surf the day prior to her arrival. Several of our guys were able to capitalize on some amazing swell as she approached. Although the fun was short lived and the aftermath left a trail of debris, cleanup is almost complete and reports are in that Rum Cay, San Salvador, and Long Island are all back up and running!
As we head into October-November we continue to keep our eyes out for the stray storm but also look forward to the cooler evenings which increase the chances for scoring some kiteboarding and windsurfing sessions. Naturally water takes longer to cool than land so as the sun goes down and the land begins to cool a thermal effect takes place giving us nice strong sea breeze in the late afternoons allowing us to enjoy some amazing sunset cruises.
Great photos are rolling in of divers continuing to catch giant lobsters. With visibility still over 90 feet and water temps in the 80’s the daytime has been perfect for grabbing some fins and heading out to one of the many reefs the lower Bahamas has to offer.
