[dropcap]M[/dropcap]BARA uses money from their annual Kingfish Tournament to raise money for artificial reefs. Since 1997, MBARA has built over 160 artificial reefs worth over one million dollars. The annual tournament is their main source of funding, and those monies are often used as seed money for grants from the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission and private foundations.
On August 24th we held our 17th Annual Kingfish Tournament. We had 139 boats (121 Recreational and 18 Pro) and 555 anglers total. 22 Kings, 11 Spanish, and 3 Wahoo were weighed in, along with an Amberjack weighing 64 pounds. Photos of the winners and weigh-sheets are posted on our home page at www.mbara.org for public viewing. This year’s Miss Kingfish is Taylor Gallagher (in green swimsuit).
