Banana River Lagoon-As of this articles deadline, we still have a few areas that are not totally consumed by brown algae in the Banana River, which is a good thing. Black drum, redfish, speckled trout, ladyfish and small jack are possible catches for anglers using live shrimp or jigs that imitate glass minnows along the drop offs from the shallow flats to the deeper water. During early mornings look for redfish and drum tailing on the flats on the west side of the river north of Pineda Causeway. The 1000 islands may hold these fish as well. This is if the waters in this area stay in decent shape and mullet schools are abundant. Cut baits like pinfish and mullet may be a better choice if the waters become really dirty again. Speckled trout should be roaming the edges of these islands as well. Good search baits for these fish are Skitterwalk and chug bug lures during low light conditions.
