December, despite the colder temperatures, is a great month for fishing in St Joe Bay and Apalachicola Bay. Speckled trout, redfish, and flounder will be moving up the Intracoastal Waterway (ICW) due to the colder weather. So Plastics such as DOA and Gulp, worked close to the bottom, will produce. Flounder will also be around the docks and seawalls in the ICW. Use the same so plastics bounced o the bottom to entice a strike.
In Apalachicola Bay, the Speckled trout, White trout, Red drum, and flounder will be moving up the river. So plastics, worked slow and close to the bottom will work well here too. Try fishing the edges of drop o s and near the corners of the river. Those areas will produce Speckled trout, White trout, and reds for sure. Try fishing near the pilings under the bridges and you will find big red fish, especially during the colder days. For flounder, seek structure near the sea walls and docks. Make sure to check out Tree Top and The Platform locations; both are great places to find fish year round. Remember, deep water keeps an ambient temperature that fish will seek when the cold temperatures drop fast. Good luck and let’s go catch some fish!
