Everyone in this part of the lower Bahamas is excited about the upcoming weeks. Roffer’s Fishing Forecasting recently sent their predictions for Billfishing the Bahamas in preparation for the Bahamas Billfish Championship. Roffer’s indicated the blue water necessary for blue marlin is prevalent in the lower Bahamas. All indications are extremely good for an active blue marlin season. Although May is considered between seasons, there is still plenty of action. White marlin are being caught as evidenced by Jack Tullius on Black Bart Bertram and a Club Med angler fishing on Hadenuff. Sailfish—Larry Twiner fishing on Ms. T released a sailfish recently and there should be sails here in May. Wahoo—Allen Seidel also fishing Ms. T caught a respectable ‘hoo. Same deal, wahoo will still be caught in May. Tuna—yellowfin tuna can be found on the North Humps or the southeast corner both in the morning and late evenings. Most are averaging in the 30-to-50 pound range. Last but not least, bottom fishing will be good with black and red snapper. Look for these in 200-to-400 feet of water.
With the blue marlin bite expected to start after the April full moon, the marina at Riding Rock is starting to fill with well-known boats. Thinking of a San Salvador vacation? Riding Rock Inn and Marina and Sands Residence Hotel are both within walking distance of the marina and have ocean view rooms. Come and enjoy all that San Salvador has to offer!
