Davis Harbour Marina was the destination for anglers who participated in the 2013 Dudley Roberts Invitational Fishing Tournament from April 11-13, 2013, hosted by Jim and Alison Derrick and Sally Searle.
The 14th annual tournament welcomed 10 boats to South Eleuthera for the threeday event. The friendly angler tournament format utilized a point system for “catch-and release” billfish as well as category winners for heaviest wahoo, tuna and dolphin (mahi).
Davis Harbour Marina’s local neighbors at Ocean Fox Fishing & Dive Center captured all around victory on Underdog after releasing a blue marlin on day one and a sailfish on day two. Layla placed second with the release of a blue marlin on day two and Shady Lady placed third with the release of a sailfish on day three.
Category winners included: Shady Lady for a 37 lbs. wahoo caught on day two, Wil Sal with a 12 lbs. tuna on day three, and Pelagic with a 35 lbs. dolphin on day three.
Competitors from the Carolinas, Texas, Florida, New York, New Jersey, Georgia and Nassau released a total of four billfish during the three-day event. The field of sportfishing and center console boats enjoyed beautiful weather. While the wind came from the south all three days, the weather brought improved fishing conditions daily.
The event was capped off with the Davis Harbour Marinafest for anglers and invited guests on the final night that included South Eleuthera’s very own rake and scrap band, The Rum Runners.
