Abaco Dive Forecast – June 2011

With air temperature and humidity on the rise, June is an ideal time to dive and snorkel the wide range of sites Abaco has to offer. The ocean is amazingly clear, warm and calm. Winds are light and variable. Current is virtually non-existent. The occasional summer popup shower helps moderate air temperature in addition to keeping the island green and the cisterns full.

Air temperatures will range from 70-to-82 F and water temperature averages 83 F. Visibility typically exceeds 100 feet giving divers the opportunity to be surrounded by lush coral reefs and abundant marine life. Diving options are diverse—observing brilliantly colored juvenile tropical fish darting in and out of the coral heads; searching for those resident masters of camouflage, which blend in with surrounding sand, coral, sea grass, sea fans and sea whips; admiring the ‘beauties of the reef; or watching the beyond for sightings of some of the ocean’s most magnificent creatures that abound— there’s something to thrill everyone.

Glassy (copper) sweepers and silversides are beginning to dart with ballet-like precision through the rays of sunlight penetrating the tunnels and caverns that are so unique to Abaco. Corals are blooming—proof that it’s summertime!

June 15 will bring the ‘Strawberry’ Moon, a perfect timeframe to join us for a night dive on the world’s third longest barrier reef.

Not certified? No problem! Ask about our resort lesson that takes less than two hours of training in our on-site pool, followed by a four hour dive trip.

Special Note: DIVE ABACO! has been serving Marsh Harbour and Abaco for 33 years. As the second owners of the operation, Keith and Melinda are celebrating their 20th anniversary. Congratulations!
