Abaco Offshore Fishing Forecast – April 2013

Loads of dolphin and a strong wahoo presence can still be found in Abaco. PHOTO SUPPLIED by Jim Fenn.

Fuel up your boats and get your lines tight! The month of April will be giving us some great fishing opportunities. We are still seeing a strong presence of wahoo, which is pretty amazing. You can add to that with a good run of dolphin and yellowfin. Reports coming in off Schooner Bay and Hole in the Wall are that the waters are ripe with large dolphin in the 25-to-45 pound range and tuna weighing in at 70-to-90 pounds. Trolling with ballyhoo and your standard lures will get you the best haul. For those who have a bit more time to kill, you can always “chunk” which will also bring you a nice catch.

Weather conditions for April tend to be much calmer than March. Things settle down in the south, with winds typically coming from the west. If you are in for a real adventure, try your luck with some “hand-lining” down off Sandy Point. The mutton snapper give you a good fight and you can fill your boat up in a hurry.

Enjoy the seas….as I do every chance I get! Until next time…Tight Lines my friends…. See you in Abaco!
