Andros Fishing Forecast – January 2012

More large bonefish are caught around Behring Point every year between October and February than any other place on the planet.

January in Andros is one of the milder months of the winter. At this time of the year, there are tens of thousands of bonefish just around the point west of Behring Point in Central Andros. The bones gather here for meeting, mating and laying their spawn among the turtle grass. When the wind changes direction from the north and northwest to the east and southeast, the migrating fish make their way around the northern end of the island, along the west back to their hangout “Around the Point”. Here they hang until either the weather changes or until the shark population gets too large. When it does, they move into deep water to draw the sharks away, then they return. More large bonefish are caught around Behring Point every year between October and February than any other place on the planet. Visit Andros, where your fishing adventures begin.
