As June rolls around temperatures are rising, so the term “beat the heat” begins to have some meaning.  The better times to fish will be early mornings as the sun is rising, or during the largest tide movement for the day.  The early morning bite is definitely the best.  Artificial plugs, like the Rapala Skitterwalk, and spoons work great for trout and redfish over the grass flats during first light in 2-4 feet of water.  As the sun rises, focus out on the deeper edges of grass along the sand bars and troughs from 4-6 feet.  Here, you want to use 1/4- to 1/2-oz jigs along the bottom.  Slayer INC paddle tails or DOA C.A.L.s work great.

Live bait, like pilchards, also work very well along those same troughs and grass edges later in the day.  Present your bait with a 1/4 oz. split shot and a 2/0 circle hook with the bait on the bottom.
