November fishing is great! It’s the running of the bulls, or “bull reds” that is. Typically the water temperatures have decreased enough for big bull redfish to be here. They can be found in the passes, deltas and running along the beaches as they migrate in to spawn.

Pass fishing is normally done by soaking big live or cut baits on the bottom of the channel and waiting for schools of bulls to swim by and eat. Live croakers, pinfish, and small mullet work well. Also large live shrimp and small blue crabs work great. Depending on the pass your fishing, depth and current speed will determine the size of weight you need to use. Typically a 3- to 6-oz. lead sinker works fine, with 40-to 50-lb. test fluorocarbon leader and a 7/0 VMC circle hook.

If you’re running the beaches, these fish are usually in schools and visible for you to sight fish. Using artificial baits is a great option here: try a 3/4 oz. Johnson gold spoon, a Rapala Long Cast Twitchin Mullet or a Slayer INc 4-inch paddle tail in bone color for best results. Cast your lure in front of the school and retrieve it right across their faces.
