July, July come it must, let’s just hope it’s not a bust—in surfing terms of course! July is always a fun month as it begins with dueling celebrations of our big neighbour’s independence from Great Britain over 200 years ago, and then a week later, the Bahamas’ own. We turn 40 this year! So wherever you are ask around about where to find the celebrations. And if you’re asking a surfer maybe he’ll turn you on to a July small-wave spot. Yes, like our big neighbour’s east coast the Bahamas goes into a small-wave pattern this month. If it’s waist-to-chest high and semi-clean, be on it! That’s a fine July day. As of the middle of June we had yet to see any tropical storm swell, except for a little bump from Andrea, so maybe, just maybe July will crank up a storm or two. The sunburns will tell you who was able to take advantage of it.
