If May were a food it would be a hamburger, a sandwich that can range from wonderful to mediocre. At a new burger joint you’re not sure just how good it’s going to be. It’s unpredictable, a surprise. Hopefully this May has juicy freak north swells, mouthwatering spray off the back and is delicious as can be, and it can be yummy. A look back at recent May’s saw some big days sandwiched in between lean flat periods. May’s number of sizeable days may not fill you up. If April is any indication of what this month will serve up, we’ll be digging into some good chest-to-head high days. Hold that side of Bermuda High please. May can be right-off-the-grill hot, a before you’ve had a chance to get used to it hot. A prevailing southeasterly cools it off for you and if the surf is a little less tender and subtle because of it, well, it’s a trade-off.

Summer kicks in homecoming season around the islands. These festivals bring most of the folks out from the settlement for good food, games, drinks and live entertainment ranging from non-existent to superb and fascinating. Our hometown festival is called the Pineapple Festival. It’s in Gregory Town. Island Flava’s midday set kicks off the Saturday, June 8 musical lineup.
