Banana River Lagoon

Capt. Jim Ross

Diane Eford fed a live shrimp to this chunky black drum.

The Banana river is still in crisis mode but at this deadline there had been no recent fish kills to speak of. Trout and ladyfish are possible along the drop offs and deeper flats where glass minnow pods are found. Saltwater Assassin 4-inch sea shad in the avocado with red flake or silver phantom with chartreuse tail are good color choices for these fish. Black drum and sheephead will usually hit fiddler crabs near bridge pilings along the causeways. If the water conditions improvea little we may also see some juvenile tarpon showing up in the residential canals of Satellite Beach and Cocoa Beach this month.
