Best Months Of The Year

This month should be one of the best months of the year for Bass fishing on Lake Kissimmee and the rest of the chain. Quite a few Bass went on the beds in March and more will be on the beds in April’s full moon cycle. This means the post spawners from March will be in a feeding frenzy and so will April’s pre-spawners. In April you will get the best of both worlds. For the post spawners fish the outside edges of the Kissimmee grass lines and scattered lily pads. Watermelon red flukes, black blue senkos or june bug senkos, june bug 8” mag lizzards are best fished weightless or no more than an 1/8 oz weight. For top water action a terminator scum frog in black can get you some really big blow ups. For the pre-spawners fish the open areas between pad fields or cuts running through the Kissimmee grass lines. Lipless crank baits, spinner baits and swim baits are best in these areas to use.

Speck fishing is still very good. Jigging in lily pads and Kissimmee grass is the best technique at this time. A 1/16 oz jig chartreuse tipped with a minnow or white grub is best.

Most of the Bluegill and Shellcrackers are still in deeper water at the time I was writing this forecast but in April look for these bream to move in for a spawn.
