Bimini Inshore (and Nearshore) Fishing Forecast – April 2012

Bonefish can be found on the north and west sides of North Bimini. Photo Credit: Austin McKenna.

Spring is in the air and the spawning bonefish know it! Large schools of bonefish are on the flats, and will continue to increase in numbers through April; and they are hungry! While there are big schools of smaller fish, there is a large amount of fish in the 8 to 10 pound range, as well. What seems to be working best is a crab on light spinning gear. You may want to put your fly rod in the holder for now; the fish are just crazy about the crabs at this time of year. With the gin clear Bimini water, you will certainly see the fish tailing on days with calm winds and be able to sight fish. Best tide is incoming in the early morning and late afternoon/early evening now that the days are getting longer.

Fishing the bottom? Lots of yellowtail snapper and grouper can be found below Turtle Rock, along with mutton snapper and grouper. Eldorado Shoals is another spot you may want to check out. Amberjack are generally plentiful during April. Come to Bimini and enjoy true island hospitality and fun at Bonefish Ebbie’s!
