It would seem that if bonefish take a vacation during the summer, they all head to Bimini! Bimini’s flats have been producing incredible catches for my clients and the trend should definitely continue into July. Recently, after catching nearly 50 bonefish, clients on a full day charter wanted to “call it a day” after just the morning! The days are hotter, which means early morning and late afternoon/evening is the fishing window of opportunity. In addition to the bones, permit and barracuda are plentiful. Nothing fancy is needed, shrimp and crabs seems to be the best of baits at the moment. Nearshore cero mackerel, kingfish and mutton snapper have been plentiful. The summer also bring less wind opening up many locations around the island that are not as accessible during the winter months. With the warmer water temperatures, the fish will be seeking the deeper edges of the channels and congregating near the openings of the creeks where the water will be flowing faster. Use a heavier fly and give it time to drop through the water column.

All of us here in Bimini are looking forward to your visit to our little island in the Stream!
