Bimini Offshore Fishing Forecast – October 2012

Huge wahoo is what brings most anglers to Bimini in the fall and early winter. They will be caught in 400 to 700 feet of water using surface lures as well as diving plugs and lures down deep on heavy leads trolling up to 15 knots. PHOTO CREDIT: Capt. Skipper Gentry.

Finally fall is here. The cooler temperatures are certainly a big welcome and I personally am excited about fall fishing in Bimini. There is great action on the reefs with yellowtail and other bottom fish including grouper and snapper and more. The offshore action really heats up with sailfish biting in the 700 to 1700 depths and the beginning of wahoo season is firing up. Huge wahoo is what brings most anglers to Bimini in the fall and early winter. They will be caught in 400 to 700 feet of water using surface lures as well as diving plugs and lures down deep on heavy leads trolling up to 15 knots. Yes, 15 knots—wahoo are the “speedsters of the sea” and like their next meal going pretty quick!

On the subject of wahoo, the Bimini Big Game Club will be hosting a Wahoo Smackdown November 15-17 this year! Last year anglers fishing out of Bimini Big Game Club weighed in a 101 pound wahoo so the big guys are definitely out there. A new bait we are going to be using this year is the Bluewater Candy Jag-a-hoo wahoo bait. Get to Bimini enjoy the nice fall weather and excellent offshore fishing.
