June brings summertime to the islands. Bimini is stellar and virtually perfect this month. Calm prevailing southeast winds rustle over the Biminis in June, creating ideal sea conditions for crossing in your boat from Florida or diving once you have reached. Water temperatures are on the rise, and regardless of depth or location, over 80 degrees Fahrenheit. Visibility remains outstanding, often surpassing the 150 foot mark. The only exception comes on days after a big rain, when tides can often bring some fresh water run off to murk up the waters for a day or two.

As always on our little island of big thrills, big animal encounters abound in the summer months. Caribbean reef sharks and blacktips are all over our feeding sites like Triangle Rocks and Bull Run off Cat Cay. Wild Atlantic spotted dolphins are much more accessible this month, with the calm winds of June. The area northeast of North Rock is teeming with these magnificent and playful marine mammals. If approached properly, spotted dolphins are some of the most charismatic and enthusiastic creatures found anywhere in the world. They can spend hours jumping, spinning, and toying with us and each other.

The coolest big animals hanging around Bimini this month are huge loggerhead turtles. They spend June here mating and nesting on the beaches to lay eggs. Due to the social nature of their time here this month, these huge reptiles, with necks as big around as pro wrestlers, and often weighing a few hundred pounds, are extremely inquisitive and engaging. It is not at all uncommon this month for these large turtles to swim directly up to divers and circle them for 10 minutes or longer trying to decide what to do. Without a doubt, the animals and adventures waiting for you in Bimini this month are incredible, so let’s get diving!
