De Sulocki’s Record-Breaking Trahira

Brazil's Xingu River, famous for its aggressive fish, witnessed a historic moment on July 15, 2024. Ian-Arthur De Sulocki, IGFA Representative and Ambassador, hooked a 77-centimeter trahira while working a streamer fly. The fish tore through the water before Ian skillfully brought it in, smashing the IGFA All-Tackle Length Fly World Record for the species. After a quick measure on his IGFA Measuring Device, Ian released the record-breaking fish back into its jungle waters home.

Epic Catch: Thomas Sebestyen’s 56-Pound Permit Still Stands in the Record Books

Thomas Sebestyen set the Men’s 10-kg (20 lb) Line Class World Records with this incredible 25.49-kilogram (56-pound, 3-ounce) permit caught in Fort Lauderdale, Florida in 1997. 🎣 Casting a small yellow jig tipped with a shrimp, Sebestyen hooked into the fish of a lifetime. This catch was also the All-Tackle record for several years and still stands as the second largest permit in the IGFA record books.

Williams’ Blue Bastard Breaks World Record

Craig Williams took his fishing game to new heights on August 26, 2024, in Dampier, Australia. Using a crab lure, he hooked a 19-pound, 11-ounce blue bastard, challenging his skills. The catch not only surpassed his previous personal best but also set a new IGFA All-Tackle World Record for the species. After verifying the weight on a certified scale, Craig released the fish, solidifying his status at the pinnacle of the sport.

On February 7th from 1:00m – 3:00 Rodney Smith will be inducted into the Legends of the Indian River Lagoon.  No doubt other honorariums will follow. He truly was a rare and wonderful spirit, and it is appropriate that his memory live on and continue to inspire.

He was the founder and publisher of the original Coastal Angler edition, creator and tireless volunteer of it’s Hook Kids On Fishing Program. Captain Rodney Smith spent the better part of his life trying to improve the marine environment and sharing the wonders of the art and sport of fishing.
