[dropcap]S[/dropcap]eptember will bring some cooler nighttime temperatures toward the end of the month; therefore, the bass bite should start to heat back up. Early morning and late afternoon will be the best times to fish. But if you do fish during the day when it’s hot, use deep diving crankbaits to get down deeper where the bass are, or try fishing the docks and boathouses on the big water. In the early mornings and evenings, try fishing along the weed lines near the channels in Bear Creek, Econfina Creek, and Cedar Creek. Try using a 4 inch Zoom Horny Toads in Watermelon Crawfish or June Bug colors on a 4/0 or 5/0 hook, Texas rigged so it’s weedless. Gary Yamamoto 5 inch stick baits in the same colors rigged weedless also works well.

Deer Point Lake is a 5,000 acre pristine lake located 7 miles north of Panama City. It is mostly fed by the cold clear spring water of Econfina Creek which is 60-80% of the lake’s inflow. Other tributaries that contribute to the inflow are Bear Creek, Cedar Creek, and Bayou George.
In addition to fishing, kayaking, and canoeing, Deer Point Lake is great for wakeboarding, skiing, and tubing. It is a beautiful lake for the entire family to enjoy, but it should also be protected so future generations can experience all that this lake has to offer. So when anglers cast in their lines for that trophy Largemouth bass, or boaters and campers enjoy the crystal clear water of the Econfina, they should remember to pick up and only leave great memories behind. This will keep our lake a clean and beautiful place for years to come.
