Fishing Forecast: Longpoint Park to Beachline Inshore

Water temps are heating up quickly as the sun comes up throughout July. The trout bite has been strong lately and should continue throughout August from Sebastian north in the Indian and Banana Rivers. The larger 20-50lb Tarpon have moved in to the north fork of the Sebastian River and Turkey Creek.

The fish will be up deep in the north fork until the sun comes up and then move out towards the railroad bridge and US1 as the sun starts to come up. Best live baits are live mullet under a cork or cut mullet on the bottom. Fly anglers will have good shots at the fish as the sun comes up and anglers using Skitterwalks and Rapala XRap 10 in Silver or Moss Back Shiner will have the best chances with artificial baits.

Fishing from Longpoint to Malabar, anglers continue to focus on bait pods and Mangrove shorelines, Spoil Islands and the docks in deeper water. There are still good numbers of big trout, Flounder as well as the occasional Snook and Red around the docks. Plenty of Jacks and Lady fish around the bait schools and will crash any suspending bait or soŠ plastics. The Banana River ƒflats are productive for sight casting to larger trout and slot sized Reds. Waders fishing the Bombing Range near 528 are catching a lot of small trout on Skitterwalks early in the morning till around 9:00am and using the Rapala Subwalk 7, Trigger X or DOA Shrimp aŠ er that. Tarpon are in the Satellite Beach canals live finger mullet as well as Skitterwalksvand Rapala XRap XR 10 by anglers ƒflyfishing.

As the weather stays extremely hot through August, get out on the water early in the morning or late in the evening no matter where you are fishing. The bite will pick up in the evenings as the sun sets but you will have a much shorter window than in the morning. With the clear water, you can improve your success by getting out of the water and wade.
