The island and the surrounding waters have been experiencing a wave of amazing good weather and calm seas this fall. Grand Bahama Island did experience a short brushing with Hurricane Isaac, however we expect the same good weather to continue through October.
The water is still warm, the sun strong and the dive choices increasing. Dive staff at UNEXSO have been busy implementing “new” dive sites. We are proud of offering different locations on the shallow, medium and deep sections of the reef. Anchors Aweigh and Lady of Lucaya are two of the new dive destinations chosen. Lady of Lucaya presents a winged statue, dominant at the entrance of a wonderful swim-through where it’s possible to occasionally surprise a turtle taking a nap. Anchors Aweigh is a unique coral ridge dive which runs parallel to shore, rich with a 300 year plus old star coral formation, giant sea fans, lobsters, rays gathering around the blue hole right under the mooring.
A new adventure possibility has now been added and that is snorkeling. If you are a diver and do not want to miss another day on the water but need to prepare for your flight, Rainbow Reef and Pillar Castle are two shallow reef areas abundant in reef fish and healthy coral open to everybody from the age of five and up. This new excursion is open to everyone, especially non-divers who wish to explore and enjoy the local underwater scene. Grand Bahama Island has a multitude of underwater adventures suitable for all levels of skill. See you under the water!
