It’s cold out, but…

Homer's over-slot Mosquito Lagoon redfish
We’re still catching fish! Don’t give up simply because of the cold.

Titusville area conditions yesterday 1-22-14 were cold and windy with water levels being VERY low and dropping. Wind NNW @ 15+ mph, water temp 56 degrees and steady when we launched at 9:30 on. After 11 A.M. water temps began to rise!

The AFTER 11 A.M. is the key element of this report. We did “luck” into a slot redfish just before 10 A.M. However, the action on the shallows did not really turn on until later as water temps came up a degree or two.

Unfortunately for Homer & Jared our trip was over about the time the action truly started. Time restraints and Jared’s chattering teeth disallowed us staying on the flat beyond 12:30.

Cut mullet cast into CLEAN sand holes roughly 12 – 14 inches deep was our pattern. Moving slowly from the shallowest depth I can float in (roughly 8 inches) towards deeper water. Give each spot 15 minutes and move out 30 to 50 yards at a time until success is achieved…
