Jackson Lake Forecast: Sept 2013

The lake has a little stain to it. Water temperatures have been varying between the high 80s to low 90s due to the unseasonable weather. I’d still focus on late-summer deep patterns during the day. Early morning and late evenings, topwater and shallow-running crankbaits will work well. The river will be a great place to fish and catch some good largemouths. Topwater in the mornings such as a toad or buzz-bait works well. Fish them around docks, laydowns, seawalls and boat ramps. I like the areas around Walker Harris Marina, in the mouth of the South, and Yellow rivers to get started. All the coves across and around the marinas are good. I’d flip docks and throw shallow crankbaits in them as well. After I’ve fished all of those, I run up the rivers just past the mouths where all the timber is piled up and fish these log piles with a creature bait and topwater. Then I run even farther up, and on my way I fish the bends, flats and big laydowns. Some baits that work well are, Senkos, Flukes, Brush Hogs, Trick Worms, toads, buzzbaits, square-bill crankbaits, Shad- Raps, flat baits and finesse jigs. All of these are good river baits and should produce good fish. The rivers are where most fall tournaments are won.
