Lake Jackson Fishing Report: June 2014

Lake Jackson Fishing Report
Julie Happersett of Tallahassee, FL-her very first Lake Jackson bass.

[dropcap]O[/dropcap]K, so we got 20+ inches of rain this spring, and it has filled Lake Jackson to the brim, LITERALLY! What this has done for the bass fishing though, it has scattered them and not in a good way. Where there was dry land just a couple of months ago, it’s now under 4’ of water. Like Lake Talquin, Lake Jackson water temps were unseasonably low in the month of May. With most bass already done with the spawn and recently moved to cover, catching them was anything but easy. But as water temps got back to normal near the end of the May, the top water bite came alive! There are many ways to catch bass on Lake Jackson, but none as exciting as top water action. People come from all over the country to try their luck at landing a double digit Lake Jackson bass, and just the sound of a hog striking at the surface is enough alone to cause you to jump out of your skin. Soft plastic frogs and swim baits will dominate through the month of June. If you find the occasional patch of open water, a buzz bait is also a killer way to boat a “hog”. Launching a boat is easy now and almost any ramp will accommodate boats up to 22’ long. The grass and lily pads are the big factor when navigating. It’s loads of fun when running boat trails to new fishing holes, but be careful. If you plug up your water pickup on the bottom of the motor and your motor stops “pee-ing”, you better shut it down or face some serious consequences and an expensive engine rebuild from being over heated.

All in all June is one of the best months for bass fishing on Lake Jackson. If you want to give it a try just drop me a line at www.FishTallahassee.com or call me at 850-296-4071. I provide rods, reels, tackle, a comfortable 21’ boat, and professional friendly guide services with almost no comforts from home…… just the great outdoors and some time on the water. Until next month, be safe have fun and ALWAYS wear a life jacket while boating.
