[dropcap]I[/dropcap] just can’t explain how great striper fishing has been for us as guides. It’s been one of the best trophy catching May and June years I have ever experienced! These trophy stripers have been ranging from 20 lbs to as much as 41.2 lbs caught on June 5th by one of my clients. Our guide trips have been producing some record weights coming to the docks with a few days as high as 200+ lbs of total weight.
The remainder of June and all of July we will be shifting over to night trips. The trip hours normally run from 6:30 pm until 12:30 am which gives you a chance at that late afternoon bite and the night bite that can be absolutely awesome. In 2013 our night trips produced several 30+ lb stripers with 37 lbs being the largest. We are projecting to boat a 45+ lber on our night trips this year! If you have never fished for stripers at night during the summer you need to give it a try. I think you would be pleasantly surprised.
Bream fishing for July should be good. Get a bunch of crickets and try your luck. I like fishing around boat docks and bushes in back of pockets. Seeing a few willow flies now so also take a fly rod and go north in the river above the railroad bridge at daylight and then again late afternoon and you should have a blast catching nice bream, bass and even crappie on a fly rod ! I like the left bank going north better than the right bank. The left bank has just always produced better for me.
It’s also a good month to drift for catfish using live worms. I drift for these fish in the hottest part of the day and use light tackle to produce more hits and not to mention the fun you have on light tackle. My favorite creeks to do this in are Wind Creek, then Peanut Point, Hogs Pen and of course the river channel above Coley Creek.
Until next time get off the couch and wet a hook!
