Lake Condition: Full Pool, 63 degrees, Slight Stain

Lake Seminole bass fishing is on fire! Bass are staging and/or starting to get on their beds. They’re being caught in the mornings on lipless crank baits like a Strike King Red Eye Shad. In the afternoons, Senkos in Green Pumpkin have been successful fished around the sand bars.

We had a lot of tournaments in February. The FLW College tournament brought young competing anglers from all over the U.S. to Seminole, and it took 25 pounds to win it. The FLW Costa Southern Division will be here during the first weekend in March. Recent local tournaments have been taking over 30 pounds for the win. Needless to say, there have been a lot of boats out on the lake chasing bass, crappie and shellcrackers.

Crappie are starting to go on their beds and are being caught with minnows and jigs. They’ve been selling out of minnows at Wingate’s Lunker Lodge, and they’re only open on Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays. We’ve seen some huge crappie coming in by the coolers-full and have been invited to quite a few fish frys in the Bass Island Campground.

Duck season is over but we’re still seeing a lot of wood ducks and redheads out on the lake. They’ll be gone soon when the weather warms up; the geese and coots are starting to fly home as well. Gale and I have sure enjoyed sitting on the porch watching the ducks get their feathers ready for the flight back home.

We’ve been seeing a few shellcracker coming in and they are being caught on wigglers. They’ve had good size to them and we expect they’ll really turn on soon.
