Lake Talquin is one of Florida’s best offshore fishing lakes. With bass caught this year up to 14lbs, you never know how big that fish will be on that first strike when ledge fishing. August will have boats gathered on similar bottom structure from one end of the lake to the other. Just like any other lake in the country, food is where you’ll find the best bass fishing. This means a decent fish finder is a must when targeting deeper bass that hang in and around river channel and main lake ledges.

When they feed, there are many different lures and techniques that will work. Don’t head out without a Carolina-rigged worm or lizard, a crank bait and a jig. Those three things are pretty much all you need to fish Talquin in August…but you gotta find ‘em first. Another good thing about fishing here in August is low boat traffic. There may be a tournament or two on a Saturday, but they’re usually done by 2 or 3. Another great thing about August bass is that they tend to stay put for longer periods of time. Current is also important; you may get bit every now and then but when they open the gates the fun begins.

Until next month, be safe, have fun and ALWAYS wear a life jacket while boating.
