[dropcap]M[/dropcap]arch brings re-birth and April brings Cobia to Mexico Beach! I love April! The anticipation of warm days and the annual Cobia migration will make anyone that loves fishing count the days until the water warms to around 68 degrees. I use chartreuse, pink and orange jigs along with artificial eels as well as live crabs and live eels. Cobia will ride a SSE wind on the surface, and if the wind is blowing any other way, they will stay deep. So use your jigs around any structure and youmay go home with a nice prize for the grill. As the water warms, the flounder will move inshore and so will the big sheepshead. I fish for them around any structure and use live shrimp. Pompano are running the beaches and love sand fleas. Use a Pompano rig loaded with a sand flea on one hook and a piece of shrimp on the other. Sometimes you feel like having chicken, and sometimes you feel like having steak. Fish are like that too! You have to experiment to find out what they prefer that day. Happy Spring to you!
