[dropcap]O[/dropcap]ctober will be a very exciting month for deep sea fishing. Usually the water starts to cool down in October, which is what the wahoo like. Look for wahoo at Dutch Bar, Middle Bar, and Shallow Ground. ‘Hoo’s can be caught trolling artificial lures such as Islanders with ballyhoo or high speed trolling. The yellowfin tuna should also pickup in October. If last year is any indication, then October will be a very promising for yellowfin, which you’ll also find at the same three points mentioned above for wahoo. The best bet for a yellowfin hookup is live bait. You can also troll with cedar plugs and Islander lures rigged with ballyhoo. There are many other lures for catching yellowfin, but I’ve had good experience with those I mentioned. Conditions will also be good for red snapper and black snapper. Both can be caught in depths from 200-plus-feet of water using electric reels with squid.
