North Eleuthera Fishing Report and Forecast: June 2014

The three top fish for June will be yellowtail snapper, mutton snapper and yellow fin tuna.

Yellowtail snapper can be caught in depths of 30 to 100 feet, on the outside of the reef, using a chum block and flat lining. Mutton snapper can be caught in depths from 15 to100 feet, mostly on the outside of the reef, but you can also catch them in the channels inside the reef. Squid is the bait of choice. Best location for yellowfin tuna is Pinnacle Bar Point, Shallow Ground Point or James Point, which has been the hot spot for the last two months.

We have been catching a few yellowfin tuna and mahi-mahi but the bite should get much better from May’s moon until June’s moon. The preferred bait for these two species are live bait, but you can also troll lures with ballyhoo, as well as diving lures.
