Offshore Report: July 2019

Capt. Don McPherson

June was an awesome month of fishing. Red snapper are being caught in depths of 60 feet and deeper. They seem to be biting everything from squid and cigar minnows to live bait. A few kings, Spanish mackerel and Bonita are being caught trolling spoons, skirted lures and straw rigs. If you travel farther offshore you will hopefully find that vermillion snapper, white snapper, scamp, gag grouper and red grouper are biting. The gag grouper and red grouper bite has not been red hot but some are being caught. Bottomfishing and trolling nearshore should continue to be good into July.

As far as offshore trolling goes, we will all hope for a southeast current to push the dirty river water away from our area. August should be a great month of trolling offshore for tuna, marlin, wahoo and mahi mahi.
Book a half day, full day or multi day charter. There should be some charter boats available. If you have your own boat then enjoy some July fishing.
