Pompano, bluefish, jacks and Spanish mackerel become more of the focus in January. I like to target areas near the inlets like the mouth of the Loxahatchee River in Jupiter and Sailfish Flats in Stuart. Brian NelliDec 30th, 2015
Well fellow anglers for me it’s time for long johns and jig heads, must be winter time. No the long johns are not some hot new secret lure. Their main function is to keep this Florida boy warm. To me there’s nothing I hate more than being cold while I am out fishing. Jig heads come into play for me during the colder winter months when shrimp become the bait of choice. Capt. Howdy boys and girls of the wonderful fishin’ world. Here we are in a brand new year with so many fish to look forward to. I can’t help but say see-ya, good bye, farewell, glad you’re outta here 2015! 2015 was a strange year, we started out thinking the Redfish had left Charlotte Harbor and then in August we had more Reds than any year I can remember.Fishin' FranksDec 30th, 2015
Bass fishing over the last few weeks of November and into the early days of December has not been without its challenges. For those of you who have been on the water, you’re all too aware of the windy conditions since mid-November. Don NortonDec 30th, 2015
The Fluke series of baits by Zoom are a tried and true tournament competitor. Available in five sizes and a wide variety of colors there is a Fluke to handle just about any condition or presentation. They can be fished weightless with a simple off-set hook, they can be fished with a Carolina, Drop Shot, or Texas Rig, and they can be added onto a weighted jig or spinner for extra action. Gars represent a primitive armored fish from Florida’s pre-historic past. There are four species of gar fish that inhabit Florida’s waters; the Alligator Gar, the Florida Gar, the Spotted Gar and the Longnose Gar. The Longnose Gar is a common species in Lake Okeechobee and nearby lakes and streams.Okeechobee EditionDec 30th, 2015
While much of the nation experiences four seasons through-out the year, here in Florida we have just two, Hurricane Season and Fire Season. Hurricane Season runs from June 1st through November 30th, the rest of the year is Fire Season. The peak of fire season are the months of January, February, and March.Okeechobee EditionDec 30th, 2015
This weekend should be a great weekend for fishing. With the weatherman predicting a long steady period of warm temperatures, the fish should have adjusted from last weekend’s cold snap and getting back into their pre-spawn and spawning cycles. Speck fishing has improved both in fishing duration and quality of fish taken.Okeechobee EditionDec 24th, 2015
Last week’s cool front produced good results in local Speck, bass and catfishing. This weekend’s cold front should lower water temperatures even further and entice Lake Okeechobee bass onto the beds. Okeechobee EditionDec 17th, 2015
Finally some cool weather has set upon us with most of the area seeing upper-50’s to low 60’s at night. According to all pundits, this is exactly what we have been waiting for to turn-on the fishing. The north and west sides of Lake Okeechobee have been on fire for shiner fishermen these last few weeks so expect conditions to improve on the rest of the lake. Okeechobee EditionDec 10th, 2015
Another weekend and yet another weather front is to play a dominate roll in this weekend’s fishing. When venturing out this weekend you’ll need to have a Plan A, B, and C prepared for the changing conditions. High winds and some rainy periods may cause you to shift gears a few times this weekend. Every month when I write this report I start with the bass fishing and move onto whatever else is biting, not this month. We're gonna start with the Speck fishing. Specks are moving into the edge of the grass lines, but your best bet still remains to drift the open water. Catches of 12-inch and up fish are caught daily with numbers in the 20 to 25 range.Capt. Eddie PerryNov 29th, 2015
December is here and it is finally starting cool off a little here in South Florida and the bass here on Lake Okeechobee are moving into spawning areas from the main lake. The fishing has been really good the past month and has been getting better almost daily. Capt. Mark KingNov 29th, 2015
As with November's "Lure of the Month," the Crappie Jig, for December's selection we continue with a style of lure as opposed to an individual lure. Since Lake Okeechobee and surrounding lakes are entering the schooling phase of our local Black Crappie population, we select the Beetle Spin for our lure of the month.
