Max Grasso Sets Junior World Record with 34.6-Inch Giant Trevally Off Point Samson
On January 26, 2025, young angler Max Grasso made fishing history off the coast of Point Samson, Australia. While casting a Daiwa Bait Junkie aboard the MICX—captained by his father, Mick Grasso—Max hooked and landed an impressive 34.6-inch giant trevally. This remarkable catch has earned Max the IGFA All-Tackle Length Junior World Record for the species. Following the exciting battle, Max recorded the fish's official length using an IGFA Measuring Device before safely releasing it back into the water.

Modify Hard Baits for Big Fish
Most hard baits have two or three treble hooks. The problem with this setup is large fish and lengthy fights can cause those tiny hooks to open up or tear from a fish’s lip. We all know this loss hurts. The bigger the fish, the worse it hurts and the more likely it is to happen. I came up with a solution for this scenario several years ago while targeting giant tarpon. I adapted my hard baits to use a single large hook. It resulted in the successful landing of more big fish than with the original hardware.
