The bass fishing in March was excellent. Donnie and Celia Winghart caught some nice bass with Celia outdoing Donnie with a nice 7-¾ lb. bass. Most of the bass were caught on shiners but plastic baits did well and crank baits are starting to pick up a bit as well. The Specs did ok early in the month but by later in March they started winding down for the season. The bluegill and shellcracker didn’t do much by mid march probably because of the cold front around the full moon.
April Best Bets:
I look for the bass fishing to do good in April. The shift from live bait to artificial baits will increase. I look for the Plastic baits, including frogs to really pick up along with an increase in crankbaits and spinner baits as well.
The pan fishermen will be all out in full force chasing the shellcrackers as well. The full moon of April may be the best opportunity but don’t overlook the new moon as well. The shellcrackers will mostly be biting on worms while the bluegills will bite both Crickets and worms.
Also I would let everyone know to mark their calendars for the 3rd Annual Pana Vista Lodge/The Big & Wild Outdoors Panfish challenge. It will take place on June 10th. This year. For all of you new to this it is a panfish tournament geared strictly for the youth and family fun. Everyone is welcome to enter and “ALL” proceeds other than prize money will go to youth organizations. It is really a great event. More details will follow next month or feel free to give us a call at 352-793-2061
