Marine Management

Big news in marine management, invasion of the Northwest Passage and more…

Every now and then our worlds collide. As well as publishing Coastal Angler Magazine Mike and I work in financial media – we’ve been doing it forever. When we’re not comparing the fish mags, we are reading what remains of the financial press.

We picked up Bloomberg BusinessWeek for the first time in a while, and we were struck by the fast paced, insightful work. Why do you care? Well the center section is a truly horrifying pictorial of the passage of the Crystal Serenity, a 69,000 ton passenger cruise ship, making its way through the Northwest Passage – the route through the Arctic that man has been trying to conquer for hundreds of years. First time ever. Only possible because the Arctic ice is melting so fast (twice the speed as projected) that now a passenger cruise ship can make it through with ease. The CEO of Crystal Cruises called the trip a smashing success and is planning more fun for next year starting at $22,000 a head. Why do we care and how is this connected to our waters?

Marine Management

Well, our revered writer Zach Harvey may call them (us?) the perpetuators of the climate change boogeyman along with “Big Green” friends in various environmental groups, but if you ever seriously doubted climate change check out the full story here.

Zach asks in his truly insightful article on page 3 if he is paranoid. No Zach, they really are out to get you, but it’s not NRDC you need to worry about! And look out Connecticut! Mike and I are pleased to announce that we will be adding Connecticut to our small family of Rhode Island and Long Island Coastal Angler Magazines! Connecticut has been without its own edition since its new owner got ill and had to retire early last year. We are in the process of buying it and couldn’t be happier to bring access to Coastal Angler on the Connecticut Shoreline!

Please reach out with your rants, raves, comments…still a work in progress, but we are working hard to bring you the best.
