I really expected the bite to turn on strong on the beach last month and we did have some good days but it was very inconsistent. June should be the start of consistency for Beach and Inlet fishing. Tarpon, Snook Redfish and Jacks should all be a solid bet along the beaches and in the inlet the month of June. Fish the bait Pods from Sebastian inlet north to Melbourne Beach and all the way to Port Canaveral for Tarpon, Sharks and Jacks. Hogy Eels and Rapala XRap 14s will work well on the Tarpon, Jacks and Sharks. Fish the Hogys deep and the XRaps for the fish staying close to the surface. Snook will be in the trough close to the beaches hanging on the bait pods as well. Best bet for the snook is live bait. Greenies, Pinfish and Pigfish rigged on a 6/0 VMC circle hook will all produce snook.

The schools of and Bonito should also be on the beaches and will be feeding on glass minnows and threadfins. This is the perfect scenario for the fly fisherman that likes a good fight. Anglers wanting to use spinning rods can throw Mirro Lure Lil Jon on a VMC jighead at the schools of Bonito and have a good time also. Best live bait tactic is threadfins rigged on VMC circle hooks using fluorocarbon leader along the edges of the bait pods and you can hook up with a number of species along with the Bonito.

The Sebastian River, Turkey Creek, Crane Creek and the Eau Gallie River will be good early in the mornings in June with action from Sharks, Jacks, Snook and Tarpon. If artificial baits are your preference, throw Skitterwalks early morning and evenings in the mullet pattern. Bait fishermen targeting Snook and Tarpon can find success using live finger mullet on a 5/0 to 7/0 VMC Circle hook rigged with 30-50lb leader depending on the size of the Tarpon.

Inshore fishing is best early also along the spoil islands and mangroves for Trout, Redfish and Snook. The bite will shut down for the artificial fishermen but will last longer in the morning for those using live bait.

Live pinfish, pilchards and pigfish are the baits of choice to entice the fish early. Also, Rapala Skitterwalks and XRap Pops fished early around the bait pods along the spoil islands and mangrove shorelines will produce some very nice catches.
