Well, March rolled in like a lion and rolled out the same way, and April did bring the showers so if you were able to get out great, I did get my fair share of cobia. Cobia are still around Sebastian Inlet and should be showing up in bigger numbers, the weather is getting better and the water temperature is starting to rise. When I wrote this, the water temperature went up ten degrees in one week great for other fish to move in. The bottom fishing has been producing great numbers of sea bass and other species but remember the Black Sea Bass season is still closed till May 31st. Triggerfish and grouper have been plentiful. Grouper season will open May 1st so be ready to work the muscles hard. You will need to go deep to get them. Start looking around the 110-200ft areas to find the bigger fish.
Tripletail are still being caught in good numbers, look for weeds, debris or other floating matter. Once you hook into a tripletail its game on. These fish are great to catch on light tackle which I enjoy that the best. The mahi mahi bite has been slower than normal so far this year; we are not seeing the numbers as before. I can’t stress enough to watch the water as you head out deep; I have heard and seen mahi mahi being caught in 80-240ft of water. I have been slow trolling to get them to bite.
In closing, I want to stress to everyone when they get on the water to be very cautious. I heard that the FWC, Boarder Patrol, and other agencies are going to be stepping up patrols as they are going to be adding many new boats.
