Lauren and I went out this past Sunday on the Stono for a little inshore Redfish action. Wasn’t sure how the conditions would be with this recent super moon and monster tides, but we figured we’d try our luck anyways. Fished the falling tide with no luck until about 30 minutes before dead low when the bite exploded. We landed 3 over slot reds, with one of them being a little over 30″, in about a 20 minute span.
One of the reds that Lauren stuck required a little extra attention when we realized that he’d tied himself up around a stump and wasn’t able to free himself even after we broke the line off. It wasn’t pretty but I strapped the Chacos on tight and hopped in the mud after him. After wading through some delightful pluff and oysters, I was able to hillbilly handfish this distressed red from around the structure, unhook him, and get him released safely.
At this point we had a few onlookers whom I’m sure got a good laugh watching me play in the pluff, so we decided to move on with our aquatic adventures.
Good day fishing and a fun story to tell.
