Late March, heading into April is a great time in East Grand Bahama for bonefishing. The flats will be loaded! Because this March has been warmer than normal, we are now seeing the larger schools of fish that usually show up around mid-April for spawning. Through the late spring there are also other species like permit, shark, barracuda, jack, and mutton snapper to target. So if you are planning a trip, this is a great time to come to East Grand Bahama.

For the novice fisherman, I recommend that you use an eight weight fly rod with a 10 to12 pound test leader with a number 6-4 fly. Some good bonefish flies are Crazy Charlies, or Gotcha Mantis Shrimp Flats Fly in tan, brown and pink colors. On the spinning rod, you should use an 8 to10 pound test with live shrimp or crab, or an artificial shrimp and buck tail jig.

Come see us at Firefly Bonefishing and we will hook you up! You may also bring along wading shoes. Wading is a good way to get closer to the tailing fish that are high up on the flats where the water is too shallow for the boat.
