It’s the most exciting time of the year once again and I hope that you anglers are just as excited about the near-coastal fishing around the Port Canaveral area as I am.
This is the time of year when the mullet start their annual migration toward their wintering grounds in South Florida, but we commonly refer to this as the “Fall Mullet Run.” As the mullet begin their pilgrimage, just about every known predatory species of fish that swims in the ocean will be waiting to ambush them. Now for the best part—they become reckless in their pursuit of a mullet meal and lose all inhibitions as they aggressively feed on the schools of silver and striped mullet that are working their way down the coastline. This makes for some exciting fishing and some of the most explosive strikes of the year. The mullet can be seen leaping or getting knocked into the air by predators as they try to gorge themselves and fatten up for winter. If you have never seen this type of phenomenon, you owe it to yourself to get out fishing during the September time frame and see this spectacle for yourself.
