As the last of the ‘tog end up in our chowder pots or depart the area be of good cheer. The upcoming holidays also herald the joy of boat show season. And this year there’s no need to hike to Boston, you have the freshest, brightest show in the country in your own backyard!

The Providence Boat Show January 23 – 25 gets us as close as possible this time of year to the joy of summer boating. Hosts Wendy Mackie and the team at RIMTA are working ‘round the clock to bring you something special. While all boat shows are generational events, where parents and grandparents share the culture and love of boating with next generations, the critical mission for this show is to make it an interactive experience with all thrilling things that can happen on the water.

This is not your father’s Providence Boat Show. There’s kiteboarding, kayak fishing, the latest in 3-d printing. Rhody pirate Captain Jack Sprengel is back as the point person leading the wizards of Rhody fishing in presenting fishing seminars that are exciting, new and informative. The guys at Big Game Fishing will be discussing all things flukin’, and there will be a way-cool fishing simulator that will definitely cause you to break a sweat as you land that champion tuna! There is ArtSea, for the art lover, Sea-to- Table demos with Rhody’s best chefs for your household chef (s), and lots of cool stuff along with the hot new boats and gear.

Win a Yeti cooler from your team at Coastal Angler by visiting our advertisers at the Show. Check out the new fashion show featuring the latest marine gear by Stormer, Team One and more. It’s worth the price of admission to see who has been volunteered for this from the fishing community.

The Volvo Race (coming to Rhode Island in May) will be exhibiting large at the show. Come and meet some of the world’s best sailors, learn about the boats, get ready for the thrill of a lifetime! Show your Rhody pride – the world’s eye will be on Newport. Be part of this once in a lifetime experience.

Channel your inner Taylor Swift and “Shake it Off.” It’s worth the effort of bundling up the kids and braving the cold to bring friends and family the magic of boating and fun on the water. See the boats, climb aboard, let the kids play with and on the interactive exhibits … it’s so much cheaper than Disney World… wrestle a tuna on the fishing simulator, get on up on a surf board or paddleboard, meet the rock stars of fishing and sailing, sample great food at the Show Pavillion or just check out that new rocking new Regulator. Who knows, maybe this is the year….

Merry Christmas from our family to yours. Thanks to our readers, writers and loyal, growing band of advertisers – we couldn’t do it without you – and we’ll see you at the Show!
