DEAD LAKES / CHIPOLA RIVER: Dec 2013

Fishing has been awesome lately! Lots of bream, crappie, and several Largemouth bass (although small ones) have been caught all month. The small bass have been good action, but should be catch and release only for next year’s fishing. Shellcrackers are bunching up too. Earthworms, red wigglers, and crickets have been about equal for bait, so choose your liking. Several anglers have found crappie with worms, and then go back with minnows and doing even better with lots of fish being caught. Thank you Lord for some rain and high water this past spring and summer. Fish are being caught from the mouth of the Chipola River all the way down to Howard’s Creek. One fella told me he caught so many Channel catfish and White catfish, about 10”-14” long, his hands hurt! He also said 3 or 4 of the cats he caught had hair in their mouths! Hmmm…..somebody must have cleaned some squirrels close by the river! Flounder, trout and redfish are moving into the Intracoastal up to White City, the “T” at 386, and East Bay! Anyway, on Saturday morning, it sounded like WWII on the Island until about 8:30 AM and then it quieted down. You guessed it…..the fishing was better than the hunting! Tighten up, get the honey doos done and let’s go catch some fish!

Thanks again for all the support, and to Coastal Angler for a fine Magazine!
