Banana River Fishing Forecast

banana-river
The Banana river has not been as productive over the last few months of this year compared to last year and the year before but trout, redfish, black drum and sheepshead are still possible in this portion of the lagoon system. Anglers will want to find areas where grass is starting to grow, and then try to locate mullet, glass minnow, or pinfish schools that may be holding close by. Small topwater plugs like the Rapala X-Pop, or possibly suspending lures like the Subwalk in the 07 size should work for the trout and reds preying on the previously mention baitfish schools. Docks and rocky structures can be another good place to find predators in this lagoon during the month of March. Trigger X 4-inch Grey Ghosts colored shrimp or Saltwater Assassin 4-inch sea shad tails rigged on a 1/8 or ¼ ounce jig head can be effective lures to use on most days. Hop or Swim these lures along the sandy bottom of the flats near mangroves or along drop-offs and channel edges.
